Refereeing Courses

We have recently had discussions with the SFA Glasgow Referee's Association. They are keen to encourage more people to take up refereeing and in particular young people.

The first step towards refereeing is to take an Introductory Refereeing Course. The course is suitable for seniors (aged 16+), those working on their Queen's Badge can use a refereeing course in the skills section of the Badge. There is no upper age limit and staff could also attend.

The course is not just for those interested in becoming a referee, it is also a benefit to players to have a good knowledge of the rules of the game.

The association holds two courses a year, beginning in September & January, each lasting 12 weeks. The course fee is around £25 but several local councils will fund places for young people living in their areas.

The course is divided into two sections the first gaining a working knowledge of the rule book, then going on to look at real life match situations.

Following successful completion of the course, participants will be qualified to referee youth football and will work with refereeing mentors to develop their skills while refereeing youth league matches.

Alternative Course

As an alternative to the regular 12 week course, the Referee's Association will run a course specifically for the Battalion, possibly over two weekends.

This depends on the level of interest. Please contact the Battalion Office or fill in this form if this alternative format course would be of interest.
