Give Blood - Save a Life

March 2008

Glasgow Battalion of The Boys’ Brigade targeted to donate 125 units of blood to the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service during March as a milestone in our 125th Celebrations. We are waiting for the final tally but thanks to all those who supported this, especially those who had never given blood before.

A Magical Christmas

(Our First Annual Christmas Carol Service)

Shettleston Old Parish Church was filled with Boys, Officers, Parents and Friends for the Battalion Carol Service on 16th December.

The service was led by Mike McCurry, Associate Pastor at Mosspark Baptist Church and SFA Referee, with a song from the gathered Anchor Boy and Junior Sections and a re-telling of the Nativity from the 145 Glasgow Company Section.

You will note from the heading this was billed as the 'First Annual Service' - It is proposed that Christmas Service will be held throughout the Battalion in the years ahead.

Other plans within the Battalion include

  • Bag Packing Day
The committee are working to arrange a 'Bag Packing Day' when Companies will be invited to send Boys along to an agreed supermarket to pack bags for the day, as well as the publicity from our presence in the supermarket, Companies get to keep the money they raise.
  • Battalion ‘125 Dinner’
A Battalion Dinner for Boys and Seniors is planned for 30th October 2008. It is also proposed that an Anniversary Dinner be held for Officers towards the end of session 2008/09.

Brigade Events

Celebration of Camping
It has been suggested that a celebration of B.B. camping is held during the summer of 2009. It is not intended emulating previous International Camps but rather bringing together Companies and Battalions, who normally camp under canvas to hold their annual camp together on one site. The programme would be part Company/Battalion and part central. Time is of the essence if this is to proceed, BB Scotland would like to:

  • Identify any Company who would be willing to participate in the event.
  • Identify any individuals, with suitable experience, who would be willing to be part of a group charged to carry out a feasibility study for the event and perhaps contribute in the final planning group.

If you are interested please contact Scottish Headquarters.
